Summer thus far with all things creepy and crawly

Ok so this is my take on Summer thus far with all things creepy and crawly & to a fare few of you i'm sure you are going to be nodding your head & thinking umm Blonde or what!!!

Since moving to Airlie Beach  the Summer has been long & hot i didn't realize the extent of the Humidity up this end of Queensland & had expected it to be just a little hotter than Brisbane & stupidly went with the motto "Well if i can live in a Desert for a year in heat up to 40degrees I'm sure this will be a walk in the park"

What i didn't realize is what comes with the immense heat

With Heat comes March Flies big big nasty looking flies with avengance towards any human they lay eyes on or smell.
For a week or so before Xmas they were everywhere, You Literally could not go outside without being swarmed by them.
And hey that would be ok if they didn't BITE, those big flies flipping Bite..
As much as I'm a wee toughie i worried for the girls outside as that would so hurt wee kiddies.
The funny thing is once you kill them you must dispose of there bodies as they are attracted to there own scent!! Now how bizarre is that?

I remember Nicola & Corey coming at Xmas and finding out ideas of what to spray to keep the March Flies at bay, So we sprayed the living crap out of our outside area.
Not that it did much good & after a few weeks all my plants died from the Spray that must have wafted onto there leafs as they started to get burn marks on the leafs then gradually died.

Thankfully after a couple of big storms they left & have not returned.

As the sun rises at 5.30am and sets at 6.40pm any times around that bring Midges & they are so tiny you cant really see them so have no idea they are Weeing on you,
Yes Weeing on you!!!!!!
And then you come out in red hot itchy lumps, I was non the wiser to these little beggars so after putting Xmas lights up i soon come up in a gazillion lumps then realized i was allergic so had to get meds asap.
the Lumps hang around a good week and can scar if you itch them  a lot.

We have been over run by Bush Cockroach's & i have had many a night waking up to a huge Cocky crawling on my Lip trying to get in my mouth or in our Bed sheets.
They fly as well so you can be sitting in lounge & out the corner of an eye see something in the background to turn to see a big Cocky running across the floor.
They unfortunately were coming up out of our Drains & under our garage door and then under our Laundry sliding door.

Geckos well they are everywhere & i quite like them actually they are around the house all the time and are harmless and are quite good in a way as they catch flies/bugs etc..
We get a lot of teeny baby ones in the bathroom & Aaliyah loves them, We have to carefully take them outside and place them on a tree.

Cane Toads as in Brisbane litter the Lawns every night & are annoying at times, We get other Odd types of Frogs as well but with that we get the most Vibrant beautiful Green Frogs that are so pretty.

I think the most Naive i have been is believing my husband when he said "Oh they do get Crocs up there but only Fresh water Croc's that live in creeks"
I had no idea there are Saltwater  Croc's around and that there are a couple of sightings each year of them floating on the surface close to shore in the sea.

Safe to say no swimming in the beach for me!!!

Its something I'm just not used to being around and have not been brought up around so they scare the living daylights out of me.

Spiders as is everywhere are around we haven't come across a whole lot but one day whilst walking with my friend Gina her wee daughter Lilly pointed out "look there's that Spider again" and walked straight up to it and had a good look & carried on.
"Oh cool i say" all the while thinking OMG OMG inside as this Spider was huggggggggeeeee !!!!

Theres Rhino Beetles are  constantly scattered all over our lawn and after my first encounter of one Hissing at me and charging at its slow pace i realize they are in fact harmless.

There is of course Snakes around i have seen a few on the Roads but luckily nun in our yard or anywhere near it.
There was a warning in the paper awhile back about being careful with small dogs and cats as there were some Snakes (forget which type) that had eaten a chicken and then a small dog at the round about down the road.
So no leaving the pooches outside at night thats for sure.

The Humidity and heat here is tiring though and poor LJ's room never once even with air con on has dropped below 30degrees and that's been for the whole time living here

With all of this though there are by far more positives than negatives living in Airlie Beach it is truly a Paradise and once you are aware of whats around you get used to it and it becomes part of your everyday living

Life is good and so is experience and whilst filling in photo albums lately i realized that we sure have had an interesting and eventful 5 years living in Australia
