I am very much an impulse sort of person, If i get something into my mind then theres no changing it!
No matter how challenging it may be or how huger task.

As most of you know i have taken up sewing & loving the creative juices that flow with that but i quickly became sick of having the sewing machine, fabrics, scissors & all other things that come with sewing sprawled out all over my Dinning table due to lack of room to have it set up any where else.
So when i saw this very old run down desk going for free online out at Malany i instantly saw potential and had to have it.

Convincing Hayden took some time
He could see it was a big job & knew i was seeing it now & seeing it finished but not the in betweens as i do.

It wasn't a small desk to pick up & move by himself but after my big sell 3rd time round he came round to the idea & went & picked it up for me the next day.
I sat out in the garage night after night slowly hand sanding the desk as it had big chips out of it all over & i had to first sand through the Laminate which takes time in itself.

The desk was very run down & in a very poor condition.

After my fingers were getting terribly sore from hand sanding so much & the movement becoming less & more frequently painful Hayds got on board to help but instantly got his car sander out (naughty i no) & set to work sanding the rest of the edges & tidying it up for me.
He did such an excellent job & is a perfectionist.

Having never restored anything with Laminate i had no idea about what was required so took myself off down to Bunnings after  googling what i roughly needed to do & picked up some Laminate suitable Primer & paint brushes.
I found out that not only do i need suitable Primer but that i should use Laminate Paint also so the Paint doesn't peel from 5 months after to 2 years after & if i wanted the longtivity of the desk then it would be worth spending the money to get the correct paint, Which of course i did.

Next was to Bog up some of the big dents then go over with turps to get excess dust and residue off then finally after 1.5months i set to work Painting the Primer then the 2 top coats of paint.

I enjoy painting & with each coat the desk started to come together.

As i sat there late at night my mind took me away & i wondered what the story behind this desk was?? & how old this desk actually is??

The thing i love about old furniture is the story's behind it & the history it has but i would do anything to find out about what that desks been through & where it had originated from.
Once painted i started putting the draws back in & soon realized although they all look the same they are in fact all slightly different sizes & have different shapes to fit into there individual gaps in the desk.
I sat out there for an hour moving them around thinking "yes Ive got it this time" but getting to the last one to find it wouldn't slot into its gap at all.
Frustrated i went inside & told Hayds who then goes out & bang first pop gets them all into perfect place.

We both agree the draw knobs need to be changed but we are having huge troubles finding "ten" draw knobs to suit the style of desk so for now we will keep the original ones on as i decided i don't want to rush into buying new ones, I want to wait until the right ones come along.

Lifting the desk through & setting it up i felt a huge sense of accomplishment & am so pleased with the outcome.
It is in fact the prefect sewing desk & i couldn't have hope for more.
It was worth all that hard work & it sure paid off.
