Summer in the Desert

Summer in Roxby Downs has been a real eye opener and something my body is not used to at all to say the least.

Everyday the temperature sits on around 43 degrees and that is so so hot.Honestly imagine a very dry heat with no wind.
You open your door and whoosh it just hits you, i find it quite hard to catch my breath outside but that could also be because of me being pregnant.

The heat hardly drops overnight so basically there is no letting up its air con on 24/7.....And with the power being so expensive here i am scared to receive our power next week eeeeek..

With heat brings BUGS and lots of them
Our house is over taken with xtra large Cockroach's, they are so huge i thought they were awful in Qld but there size difference here is unreal.

There are so many different species of bugs flying around and the most are bizarre fluro reddy colours or huge bright blue Dragon flys.
Spiders that's another big problem and red backs but you do get used to all of this and learn to accept it.

The most annoying problem is the ants that are everywhere by the thousands, Strangely i haven't found the flys to be anywhere near as bad as what i was expecting which is a plus.

Our whole town has been over run with Mice this summer we have been catching up to 5 per day and this has been put down to the big storm and huge dumping of water we received mixed with the sweltering heat creates a breeding frenzy yuck!!!!!

There are 8-9 Species of snakes here and they haven't affected us thankfully apart from me being outside a couple of weeks ago digging around under the tree out the front of our house looking for a Xmas tree pole that was lost in the storm and i stumbled across a big bit of snake skin i had a good look before i realized what i had picked up then quickly went inside and have decided there will be no more playing out the front for Aaliyah.
In saying that who would no how long it had been there etc.

Aaliyahs paddling pool has been a problem this summer as well with constantly having baby mosquito's breeding in there and also the large amount of Hornets that are around our house constantly diving into the pool to collect water then getting rather agitated when Aaliyah is in (there water)....

My garden that was flourishing has now completly died the only thing that has survived is some tomatoes but almost nothing survives in the heat of summer

Basically to hit the nail on the head summer in Roxby is Hard work to say the least its far to hot to be able to go out walking.

Most people go away during summer so all activities for children are not on again till end of February so there is a lot of time spent inside at home...

I think that pretty much somes up where we are at to date, Bring on Winter and being able to walk twice a day and cozy up by the fire and enjoy long baths with a hot chocolate before bed..

I love my family so we stick together and get through this time as best we can, All the while knowing the longer we stick it out the better future it will create .......
